In the last article I talked about the importance of niching down and ultimately asking the question ‘what’s in it for them?’,
In this article I want to take this further and go into my thought process behind why niching down is key to the success of any newsletter.
First of all, by being very specific about what you cover, you begin to create a very clear avatar of your audience, you can write directly for them and that builds trust and a tribe that will buy what you sell and recommend.
But also having that focus puts very clear constraints on what you are writing about. Nothing loses subscribers quicker than trying to be everything to all readers.
And whilst you might limit the overall total number of subscribers you get, you will also get higher quality subscribers who will read everything you publish because it is written ‘just for them’.
In short you get:
Clarity about what you are going to write about and constraints on the products you will create for your audience,
To build authority in this topic.
Increased retention and conversions which means you can also charge more for additional courses etc.
Sponsors who will seek you out because your avatar fits theirs.
