Most keyword tools these days are either downright expensive or have limits on their use. As we go forward we will need to sign up for either Moz Pro or SEMRush to do our final keyword research, but we will be using a 30-day trial so it costs you nothing.
But before you go ahead and do that, you need to start building lists of keywords to research in those tools. I generally spend a couple of days on this phase, and I do it with a tool called Answer Socrates.
What Answer Socrates does is take a base keyword and then uses Google Suggest to bring back additional keywords using these base keywords.
Questions
Are, Can I, Can, How Do, How, Should I, Should, What, When, Where Are, Where Is, Where, Which, Who, Why, Will
Prepositions
Can, For, Is, Near, To, With, Without
Comparisons
And, Compared, Like, Or, Similar, Versus, Vs
In The Past
Did, Was
The Alphabet
All the letters in the alphabet
You can export all the keywords as a CSV file, and the entire tool is completely free of charge to use.
What I like to do is grab all of the data using the keyword such as ‘solar oven’, then I will go through my Long-Tail Expansion Lists and do further searches with the ones that I think will fit.
This way, you get to build a massive keyword list that you can plug into MozPro or SEMRush later to research the numbers.
I like to do it this way because you can often uncover hundreds of keywords that the paid tools miss, and you will find a lot of low-hanging fruit you can rank for as most people using these tools will never see these keywords because they rely just on them.
Great information, I’m using it this week for a project I was contracted to do, thanks
I'll give it a try, Dan. Thank you
